High Potential and Gifted Education

Across NSW

All NSW public schools offer a range of differentiated learning opportunities to help students thrive and reach their full potential. High potential and gifted education is delivered through a combination of in-class, whole-school, and system-level programs, practices, and procedures. Our students also participate in various statewide programs—such as the Premier Sporting Challenge, Southern Stars, and PSSA events—that enrich their learning and promote discipline, commitment, and collaboration.

Across our school

At Havenlee School every learner’s potential is our priority. Our dedicated teachers identify and nurture the unique strengths of each student, helping them become the best they can be.

We focus on developing high potential across four key domains: creative, intellectual, physical, and social-emotional. We foster a culture of high expectations and equity in excellence, ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has opportunities to transform potential into talent.

Recognising that every student is unique, we provide flexible and diverse opportunities for students to explore and grow their strengths beyond the classroom. We collaborate with other regional Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs) to share expertise and resources for the benefit of all students.

We strive to understand our students deeply, ensuring their full range of abilities and needs are recognised and supported. Our inclusive and culturally safe learning environment respects and values diversity, with teachers using culturally responsive practices to honour students’ backgrounds and ways of learning.

Positive partnerships with families, external agencies including NDIS therapists, and the local community are central to supporting every student’s journey. Our targeted support builds students’ confidence and equips them with the skills they need to succeed.

In Our Classrooms

We are dedicated to recognising and nurturing high potential and gifted learners, ensuring every

student thrives. Our teachers engage in ongoing professional learning to meet the diverse needs of all students.

In the classroom, we identify individual learning needs and use evidence-based teaching strategies to challenge and extend students. We create safe, supportive environments that foster belonging, encourage creativity, risk-taking, and exploration. Technology is used creatively to provide varied learning pathways that support students in developing their talents.

At Havenlee School, we adjust teaching approaches to suit each child’s interests, needs, and pace, ensuring every student feels confident, supported, and inspired to reach their potential.
